Hawaiians had a rigid class
system, that succinctly seperated the royalty, warrior, religious,
and guild members from the commoners who fished and grew crops.
Since the 1920's, tourism has been heavily promoted as a economic
vehicle to aid employment. Tourism surpassed agriculture in the
last three decades as the major employer on the islands. Quality
of employment opportunities remains an issue, as many natives
must work three jobs to address the expense of living.
