Big Chinois

Peter Galliaert and I met in graduate school in Claremont, California in 1980. We made it a point to go out to eat once a month while we were students. He moved back to Antwerp, Belgium in 1982, but returned every year on holiday. We had a very memorable meal at Chinois, Wolfgang Puck’s Franco-Chinese restaurant in Santa Monica. While he slept, I recreated the dishes and the iconic design elements of the restaurant. This painting was constructed; start to finish, in two hours. I served it for breakfast.
