Full Metal Jacket

During the first Iraqi War, I noticed that I was wearing a bomber jacket while watching the news on television. I thought it was ironic, that after 40 years, this weapon had morphed into a fashion item. It was originally designed to keep bomber crews warm, so the planes could reach maximum altitude and shield the men from the psychological effect of bombing civilian targets. I was appalled that war could now be seen 24/7, the camera as impersonal as a bullet.
